Mercedes-Benzhas introduced the new AMG E53 Cabriolet 4Matic+ in India as a completely built unit (CBU) product. Mercedes' new offering carries a hefty sticker price of Rs 1.30 crore (ex-showroom), making it Rs 24 lakh more expensive than the standard E 53 sedan.

The AMG E53 Cabriolet is the fourth 53-badged model to land in India after the E 53 sedan, GLE 53 coupe-SUV, and the EQS 53 sedan. Essentially, the E53 Cabriolet is a two-door, four-seat convertible derivative of the E 53 sedan.

The latter is also available as a standard variant, unlike the Cabriolet, which only comes in the high-performance AMG-spec. As with other AMG models, the E53 Cabriolet flaunts AMG-specific styling elements, including sporty front bumpers and a signature ‘Panamericana grille’ flanked by LED headlamps.

In contrast, the side profile looks cleaner and more understated with a subtle shoulder line. Another interesting highlight is a thin chrome trim on window sills, amplifying its premium appeal.

The car rolls on 19-inch spoke alloy wheels as standard with the option to upgrade to 20-inch units. The rear end benefits from sporty touches like an all-black diffuser and a quad exhaust setup.

Mercedes is offering the E53 Cabriolet in five exterior colour options, including Obsidian Black, Selenite Grey, Designo Opalite White Bright, Designo Spectral Blue Magno, and Designo Patagonia Red Bright. On the other hand, the convertible fabric roof can be had in four shades—black, dark blue, dark brown, and red.

Inside the cabin, AMG E53 Cabriolet wears a familiar look with a twin-screen layout for the touchscreen infotainment and the driver's instrument panel dominating the dashboard. Moreover, owners can customise the interiors with three choices of trims—AMG carbon fibre, wood grain and aluminium, and grey open-pore ash wood.

As a luxury four-seater, AMG E53 Cabriolet is brimmed with features like powered front sport seats with neck heaters, a Burmester premium surround sound system, a flat-bottom multifunction steering wheel with heated grips, 64-colour ambient lighting, etc. It also benefits from a unique AIRCAP automatic wind-stop system that activates from the top of the windshield to prevent wind noise at high speeds.

Safety is handled by seven airbags, three-stage electronic safety program, and ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) features such as blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, pop-up roll bar, dynamic cornering assist, parking assist, active braking assist, and attention assist.

Powering the AMG E53 Cabriolet is a 3.0-litre, in-line six-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine mated to a 48V mild-hybrid system. This unit pumps out 430 bhp and 520 Nm of peak torque, with an additional 21 bhp and 250 Nm of torque produced by an integrated starter generator. Power is sent to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic gearbox.
